C4 Transmission

I have a 1966 Mustang with 302 engine. I am installing a C4 transmission with a C50P-7976-A bellhousing. Problem is that with I tighten the bellhousing bolts to the engine the torque converter bolts rub againist the engine flat block plate. I have checked the flex plate, bellhousing and torque converter and they all seem correct. Can anyone provide information to what the problem may be, I am in need of help. Thanks.

Is the convertor seated all the way? I don't think that would do it, but maybe...

You got me thinking, may be the converter isn't fully seated and I am putting pressure on the flex plate to the point of bending it back to make the bolts touch the back plate. I will check that out tomorrow and post what I find. Thanks for the reply.

Hi,
Are you converting from a manual trans if so, did you remove the pilot bearing, another thing is have you tried the torque converter by itself into the crankshaft bore, some times they are burred up and also put a little never sieze or equivalent on the nose of the converter, it will help it slide into the cranshaft bore.

Converter is not seated, press in gently while turning converter clockwise. When converter is seated space behind converter to inside back of bell housing about 1/4 in.
