I have a 67' coupe I've been messing around with for about 4 years now. The body is about finished and it's time to start thinking about the motor, trans and rear. I plan on putting in a small block crate motor and a built c4. It was originally A v8 car with A 2:79 open 8" rear. I want to keep the 8" rear But it's real tired and needs a re-build. My question is, how much h.p. will it handle, what's a good gear ratio and what kind of posi unit would you use. Thanks

Welcome!
The 8" will handle quite a bit if rebuilt properly. I've been running an 8" (4.11:1) with a Powertrax Lockright differential for nearly 10 years now; and it has held up well to 400+ horsepower. I did have to go with hardened axles eventually.

Im running an 8 inch in my 67 coupe with 3.80 gears and a posi with hardened currie axles. I have a 5 speed and a 302 with around 300 rwhp.

With a posi unit it'll do just fine. Even the 28 spline axles are pretty good. Remember Ford used 28 spline on most big cars also. 460 in a Station Wagon had 28 spline. But if you want stronger axles Currie, Moser and others can make you a set of forged ones for around $300. Biggest issue with 8" rearends is the gear sellection is less. But then I think the big gear sellection confuses people to much.
