429/460 Number 8 header tube is glowing
I'm talking about an air pocket under the hood due to the dynamics involved with the air flowing past the engine to either side and below. For instance. My '46 Willy's has a '73 2.0L Pinto engine, the exhaust is on the pass side, and the muffler is 4' from the exhaust manifold the end of the tail pipe is 2' from the muffler, the 1st 3 feet of exhaust pipe do not glow but the last foot before the muffler begins does, and I discovered then that the pipe glowed where the 3rd member directed the flow of air away from that portion of the pipe, but not before that part where it was closer to the engine and not after it... Therefore it is my opinion that the one hedder pipe on #8 you have is either a thinner gauge of material (unlikely) or that the air flow in that particular area is disrupted or that you are pulling in fresh air between the hedder and the head, and the unburnt fuel is re-igniting in the Oxygen rich atmosphere and heating up the pipe that way. I really see no other reason, unless I'm overlooking something so simple that it could bite me....
