4100 carb question

I was wondering exactly what does the hot idle compensator do on the Autolite 4100series with the 1.12 bore, mechanical secondaries? Any old school carb guys out there? This is a1964 model. Thanx for your possible input

Keeps them from dieseling when you shut them down after a hard run.

Hey , thanks a bunch for the info And the carb is vacuum secondaries not mechanical. My bad.
