66 Coupe Ride Height

I'm needing to know the ground clearance of the frame rails of anyone who has a 66 with 17x8 tires and shorter front coils. I'm thinking of adding some sub frame connectors or the Mustang Plus body stengthening kit and want to know how close to the ground will I be.

I'm not looking to have a car that can't clear a speed bump.

I don't have my car nearby presently. But, you can expect to lose NO MORE THAN 3" of ground clearance with a set of aftermarket sub-frame connectors. The MP body strengthening kit uses a fabricated rocker panel extension that reduces ground clearance ~1.5". Together, they (sub-frame connectors and the MP body strengthening kit) will really make a difference in chassis stiffness.

FWIW, do you have cracks in your quarter panels just below the bottom of the drip rail? Most "well flexed" 65 and 66 Mustangs do have cracks there. Stiffen the chassis and those cracks will be a thing of the past.

Yea, that's the reason I'm adding the SFC and possibly the MP kit. I've read a lot about how the old bodies get even worse with age and even a fresh welded body has a lot of flex. I didn't realize how much it did have until I move on of my jack stands to the front of my frame rail and saw the back of it drop almost 3/4". I plan on running 2x2 x 1/4" tube steel from the rear frame rails, just in front of the leaf spring perch all the way to the fire wall. At the moment, my front frame rails are high in the back, where they attach to the floor pans and I want to get the body tied down and the frame rails even before I weld them in, so that everything will be straight.

My concern is how much clearance I will have after installing the SFC (2x2) AND lowering the body an inch. Just looking for someone who has a mustang configured like this.

Take a look at this thread...
http://www.fordmuscle.com/phpBB/view...95&forum=2

In the third (IIRC) photo you can see how I tied my sub-frame connectors (SFC) to the rear sub-frames. If you attach them in front of the front chassis pick-up point, you're not really tying the frong and rear sub-frames together. Additionally, if you attach the front of the SFC to the floor supports, you're not really tying the to the front sub-frame.

There are as many ways to skin this cat as there are people reading this post. I'm just offering some advice based on experience and education.

My $0.02.
