Windage Tray=Cobra Jet

Windage Tray=Cobra Jet

My 1970 came with a standard Cobra Jet engine, but upon rebuilding it had several S.C.J. parts inside. Well, for first 200,000 miles the oil pan seeped all along the edge. It got rebuilt eight years ago and at the time I buttoned it all up, I installed two oil pan gaskets, one to each side of the flange on the windage tray. It still seeps.

I have a couple of booklets on "How to Rebuild...." but the oil pan is magicallly installed and no mention made of a tray there either. In a week or so now, have to get into the oil pan again. Should I install two gaskets or one then?

Use one gasket on each side and seal with gasket maker by Loc-Tite. Put it on both sides of both gaskets. Tighten it just snug and then let it set up for 30 minutes. then torque it to specs and it will never leak.

also - check and make sure the area of the pan flange around the bolt holes are not too badly distorted. They may require a light "dollying" down flat to help it seal properly...don't over tighten.

Went out to garage, and finally located my original Ford brand gasket set. The type which came with a blue label and racecar. There is only one oil pan gasket inside. Best I came tell from faded label it has a C8??? part number on it.

I should be using two?

Ya, you definately need the two gaskets, but be very carefull not to overtighten, it is very easy to do. Follow the other posters suggestions and you should be good to go.
