TCP Front Suspension

I am interested in upgrading my front suspension on my 70 Mustang. I desire a superior handling setup for the street. I thought about many alternatives, global west tubular setup, TCP coil over or standard tubular setup, lowered upper stock control arm with ball bearing perchs and new springs. I keep coming back to TCP product. The complete TCP bolt in coil over setup looks like a well designed and made system. Do any of you have experiance with the TCP coil over or TCP standard spring design front suspension? All input and recommendations is requested. Alan

Get ready to empty your wallet.
I was eye balling that same set up before I tore into my Falcon. Then was on the fence for some time with the TCP stuff and a Mustang ll conversion with a rack and pinion set up. I think the TCP coil over stuff cost about the same as the other conversion and does not include installation. I decided I wanted handling over the Rod ride that you get with the Mustang ll conversion kit and was back to the TCP as my set up. When it came down to it I could not justify the cost and personally did not think I was getting anything better than I just did an up grade with quality parts.
So I ended up with the Global West boxed control arms (not the tubular) Open tracker roller bearing perches, 16:1 ration steering gear box, manual steering with all the Tony Branda bearing pitman arms and what not, did the 1" Shelby drop, KYB's with 600 springs. Although I did use the TCP struts and their Export brace and Monte Carlo system. I'm happy with this set up, installed it all myself and think I spent a lot less money. I have yet to see anyone here with the complete TCP system. I’m sure it is a nice set up, looks clean and well thought out but…

TCP's coil over kit is actually a lower price than many other coil over kits. I just empied my wallet! My decision wasn't based on the price. I decided on TCP for two reasons 1) its a complete turn key setup 2) it's engineered with race car adjustabilty. The TCP coil over kit will be delivered by wednesday. I can't wait for my car to have safer and superior handling. Iethiopian, your steering setup is the same as mine. Thanks for your input. I'll post the results for anyone's interest.

I'm not a fan of TCP's tublar upper control arms. Being variable length IMO isn't the best way to setup a well balanced suspension. I'd rather run Global West or Opentracker upper arms.

The upper arms are adjustable, this is good since the L and R shock towers will not be the same. The TCP upper control arms design is very similar to race track supensions. I'll let you know how it works out but I see this as a positve for the TCP design.

I have been running the TCP setup for a year now and have nothing but good to say about it. It is an awesome kit. I have heard all the people talk down about the upper arms being adjustable. Well I have not seen ANY downsides to this. You can dial in this setup however you want. My car drives like it is on rails. For most of the people that talk bad about this setup I know they would not have anything bad to say about it if they rode or drove my car. It is an expensive setup but like said before cheaper then any other coil over setup out right now. Plus their strut rod design is FAR better then any others at this time.

Eric, thanks for the feedback. Your car is really awesome. Do you have the TCP rack and pinon steering setup on your car? If so, I would be very interested in your experience with R&P. Also what rear springs do you have? I want complete my steering and suspension update this winter. Any other upgrades you would recommend?

Thanks. I have not upgraded to the rack yet. My steering in my car (I know it is hard to believe) is pretty good. Yes it is over assisted but it drives great the way it is right now and it has a lot to do with the front suspension. With my old setup it was not as tight and predictable like it is now. I will upgrade to the rack when I can but I am not to that point yet. If the steering had slop in it then I would change it. If you can afford to do both then do it. I have the heavy rear 4 leaf springs with the KYB shocks. It is lowered a 1 1/2 in the rear. I have the 3/4 inch stabilizer bar with Midolyne bushings. Some day when I have the funds I would like to get the steering setup and the Rear coil over that TCP makes. It is VERY expensive though and I can't see springing for that stuff just yet.

I just received the TCP Coil Over kit. Wow is it nice! The workmanship and quality is eye opening. It the CO kit works as good as it looks, it will be a bargain. I can't wait to get this on. Maybe the rain will stop and the sky will part when I have the kit installed!

Yes the quality of the kit is second to none. If you have all the other parts of the car set up right it should handle like it is on rails. Post some pictures when you get it done.
