problem: wide wheels on 65 stang?

I want to run deep dish wheels on back of my 65 stang maybe 18's? What do I need to do? Do I need a different rear end? The thing is that I have a rearend now that is 1 inch longer on each end than normal, I think. (its not the original from the car, it came out of a 65-66 falcon with 289, thought it was the same? The car is currently on rottisiery so tubbing or what ever could be done. What do you guys suggest?

problem: wide wheels on 65 stang?

This is what I am working on. I have a 64 Falcon. I thought the rearends were the same size, 58". Anyway, I am going to "mini tub" the wells. Then relocate the leaf springs inboard a few inches. Also roll the fender lips. If I have measured everything correctly, I should be able to go 10" wide on rear wheels. From there it's a matter of finding wheels with the correct back spacing. Normal back spacing in the rear is 4.5". So 6.5" should fit.

The key is to measure carefully. I plan to get a WheelRite tool to help with wheel/tire size.

I'm not sure what size a 65/66 falcon rear is, but Nolan62 is correct, the 65/66 Mustang one is 58". 67/68 is 60", and later years may be even wider, I've never measured one to know. This is outside brake drum to outside brake drum. In other words, wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. I also know, on a 67 Mustang, 10" wheels will fit with little modification if any, with a 6.5" backspacing. I'm going to be running a 58" wide rear end on my 67, so I bought 5.5" backspacing wheels.

Less backspacing = more dish, which is a good thing imo lol. For looks anyhow.

I've only owned one 66 Mustang, and it never got to a point in the build where wheel sizing was an issue before I traded it off. Hope this information helps you though.
