tire sizes for a 1966 hardtop

Hello all,
I just got done putting new suspension all the way around on my 1966 mustang. I bought the parts from Mustangs Plus and include: 620lb front coils, 1/4" poly spring bushing, roller spring perches, 1" sway bar, export brace, monte carlo bar, 4.5 leaf (mid eye) and KYB shocks all around. After removing the original suspension the car actually lifted up almost 2.5 inches on all corners with all the new parts. I have yet to really take it out and push it because the tires are all shot.
Here is my question.

What tire sizes can I run on the car without too much rubbing?

I had 205/60-14's on the car and now they look tiny with the huge gaps I have in the wheel wells. I waited to replace the tires after the suspension so I could take advantage of the biggest tire that could reasonably fit.
The rear should be no problem. I think a 225/60-14 will fit with no problem and give me a little wider tread patch (a 235 might fit but could present problems on my 14x7 inch rims).

I measursed the front and with the wheels straight . A 215/60-14 would fit but once I turn the wheels the tires would "rub" on the fenders. The larger the tire the worse the theoretical "rubbing" would be. A 205/60-14 fits for sure but it looks so small in the wheel well.

I think thats all the information. Has anyone had similar problems or have advice? Thanks for any help.

Tire size per manufacturer varies quite a bit. Certain of them tend to build smaller/larger than others.

On mine, I find a tire of diameter 24-25 inches fits fine in front and rear. Maybe 25 1/2 if narrow tread. Tire width (not tread on ground, of 6 to 7 up front and 7 in the rear. That 7 in the rear rubs when I whack a pothole too.

Keep in mind that the suspension should settle some over time.

I have heard that the suspension will settle a bit. If it dropped down an inch i would be fine with that.
How much do the suspensions settle once they have ben driven a little?
Also, How wide can I go on my 7 inch rim before the tire is too wide for the rim?
If it helps I am looking to buy the BFG Radial TA (the muscle car style tires).

Hi Rday,

I'm running 225X60X15s on my 641/2 with kits you mentioned. Also, with the shelby A arm drop. They have worked fine, except there is a little rub if you are in a situation here the cars is off camber, if you know hat I mean. But, even this has been corrected by rolling the fenders, slightly. If you need pics, let me know.
Good Luck

thanks for the replies. I ended up going with 215-60/14 on the front and 225-60/14 on the rear. I havent had any rubbing problems so far. The car handles so much better now that I can really throw it into a corner, where before I ahd to brake all the way in and go slowly because the body rolled so much. The tires looked really big (sidewalls) but I have learned to like the look. It kinda looks like the Shelby race car on the cover of Mustangs and Fords awhile back.
