Re: Modding a '69 coupe rear quarter panels

Ok I called a place that sells Shelby parts and there sending me a catalog and a factory illustrated book on how the parts go on to convert to a shelby. He told me like you did that the side scoops, quarter extentions, deck lid, and taillight frame is pretty much all bolt on. Im really looking forward to doing this. He also showed me that if you have a fast back or convertible you can convert the whole car to a shelby look-a-like, which Im sure would be costly.

Shelby did a convertible in 69, so maybe those parts would work on your coupe, isntead of using the fastback parts...the convertible extensions should fit no problem, not sure about the trunk lid...do convertible and coupes use the same trunk lids???

Going back to the original post about the use of 69 fastback quarters on a coupe...if I remember right, when Foose did it, he said it actually is a little wider than the convertible quarters...which allowed larger rear tires too...that is a nice little bonus on its own!

if you put fastback qtrs. on a coupe you will also need outer wheelhouses as the fastback body was wider than the coupe.

Re: Modding a '69 coupe rear quarter panels

That is not true. There are no fastback specific wheel houses for '69 '70 Mustangs. True, the top of the quarters do have more of a shoulder to them. There is no need to add sportsroof 1/4s to a coupe. The original poster just wanted to add the faux side scoops from a '69 sports roof. Ford actually considered it on the 70 coupe, I have picture somewhere of a styling study of a '70 coupe that has scoops there.
