67 Fastback trunk lid ?

I started installing the fiberglass trunk lid today and what a POS. There is no way its going to work and the original metal one is gone to the rust gremlins. Any suggestions on a good metal reproduction?

Re: 67 Fastback trunk lid ?

Fiberglass aftermarket parts typically never fit very well, and require tweaking.
You're basically lucky if you can get away without any modification to the part. (Which is "Very Rare".)
This is just the nature of fiberglass, and Carbon Fiber aftermarket parts.

A lot of the time if the part is too bad the company will exchange it.
But they typically do it with shipping at your expense. Which gets expensive on such large parts.

So who would I recommend? Well I've seen terrible parts from most companies. You're best bet is to go with a company with more quality control. Problem with that is they get more expensive.
But most of the expensive companies try also try to cover you a lot better.

Re: 67 Fastback trunk lid ?

I had the same problem with my 68 fast back got it to work buy adjusting the hinges also had to grind off alittle glass where the deck lid meets buy the rear window it took me quite awhile to get it right but most of your problem is in the hinges you have to raise or lower them fiberglass deck lids do not fit like the metal ones at all. Hope this helps you

Re: 67 Fastback trunk lid ?

I bought a California deck lid style from Mustangs Plus. We spent 2 days on it to make it perfect. If we had insatlled it just out of the box, it was look uggly... Fiberglass does require lot of time, patience to make it perfect.

Re: 67 Fastback trunk lid ?

Well we got a new metal lid from mustangs plus and the quality was fine. The problem wound up being in a very poor fit on the new quarter panels and taillight panel. The "bodyman" didnt allow enough space for the damn trunk lid to fit. He was about 5/16" too narrow. Talk about enough to piss off the pope! I basically had to peel the skin off a brand new trunk lid and cut down the inner structure and then re fold the edges. While I only cut 1/8" off each side and recurved the front corners the gap is now just a little wider than I wanted. It will have to do as Im getting tired of this project. I usually will not take over someone elses projects and this is exactly why. Things like this should have been done long before the car was even painted. I have been working on this car for over a year and about half could have been avoided if I had done the car from the start. Oh well enough crybabying for now. Nothing to do but GIT-R-DONE

The new Dynacorn repop FB trunklids seem to fit great, I saw one being fitted on a 67FB and it looked great.

Re: 67 Fastback trunk lid ?

The problem turned out to be in the rear quarters and the way they were fitted. IT was just easier to refit a metal one than fiberglass
