Re: Bought 66 in barn, need help!!!

I had a Unilite Dist. in my 1966 for awhile. Worked good for about 1 1/2 years.

Parked the car in neighbor's driveway one night. Would not start up next morning so he could get his car out of garage. It would give spark, until the starter engaged. Then near zero. On his slab, I had to install points and condensor type distributor (which had been removed, and was sitting in a bag inside my garage). All this just to move the car 200 feet.

Found that this was typical of the earlier Unilite systems. The replacement module was as expensive as the whole Dist. cost me. Some fuel savings (as noted on side of original box).

If you need to move it and drive it for a while, then go to points. Get car stabilized, then go to the Mallory unit. It may or may not work then.

Wm.

Dont like them but there are others that have had no issues at all. To me they were very tempermental with the photo cell and liked to burn them up alot

Re: Bought 66 in barn, need help!!!

I bought the Accel module at less than half the Unilite one. Also, make sure there is less than 12 volts going to it or it will burn out the LED in short order. I don't have a ballast resistor but simply using the stock pink resistor wire, the unit is getting 7 volts.
