Re: Hood Clearance?

The first question is which one do you want to run? I don't know the specifics about your engine, but generally speaking, I would recommend the Victor Jr. on a 408 unless you have a heavy car or truck.
Also, keep in mind that I have a 1" spacer under my carb because I needed a vacuum port for my power brakes. Even with the spacer my 12x2 oval was sticking up a little over 2" out of my hood. If you have a 2" scoop and no carb spacer, then you should be fine using a 2" high oval.
I believe fdnut is using a 3" high filter under his cobra jet scoop. I was going to use a cobra jet scoop just like frdnut's set up, but then I found this old Cal Custom scoop assembly and decided on it just to be different.

Re: Hood Clearance?

I took and RPM Performer off mine, and switched to a Vic Jr, the RPM fit fine under the hood with a 2 inch filter, if I ran the 1 inch spacer then it poked through the hood.

Re: Hood Clearance?

Sorry guys I can't give any exact measurements since my engine won't be back in the car till spring..The air cleaner fit nicely up in my scoop..It was fairly close to the top but not too close..

Re: Hood Clearance?

I have a question about clearance. I am thinking I won't have clearance with my weiand 174. I do have a 3" cowl fiberglass hood. I measured my engine from the where the motor mount bolts on to the top of the cobra air cleaner. It measures 22". My car is under a car cover and snow right now. Can someone, with their engine out of their 67-68, measure from the top of the motor mount to a straight line over the fenders? Sorry for hi-jacking this thread.
