Hood Clearance?
Does anyone know if a 351W with a Victor Jr. intake and a Holley will fit under the stock hood of a 67 Mustang??? My engine is being assembled and I'm wondering if I need to start saving for a new hood!!!

Re: Hood Clearance?
You will need a drop base air cleaner and will only be able to run about a 2 1/2----2 3/4 inch high air filter.

I have a 12X2" oval air cleaner I was hoping to use. Frdnut, how tall is the filter in your air cleaner?

Do you mean the one in my sig?...It is a 3 inch I believe but it sits right up inside my hoodscoop.

That's a cool set up! But if that's a 3" filter then a 2"oval still wouldn't make it under my hood, unless you have a carb spacer under there or something.
If not, it looks like you are right about the drop base (or a different hood).
It also looks like that could be a drop base air cleaner on migg400's '67 in the picture.

Re: Hood Clearance?
Yes you will absolutely need a drop base air cleaner...I was running a regular round 14 inch unit with a 3 or 2.75 inch air filter and it was just touching one of my scoop bolts but I'm sure I could have made it work by modifying the base to sit lower or by going with a slightly lower air cleaner..The problem with the drop base is you still have to keep a fairly tall air filter to keep the lid from sitting on top of the carbs vent tubes.......The oval air cleaner I am running sits right up on top of the carb...The base is probably about an inch high so that's why it sits up like it does.(see the picture in my sig)

Re: Hood Clearance?
stock 67 mounts sit higher than other years, a vic jr wont fit it may be close if you use a chokless carb and a drop base air cleaner. I installed Ron Morris drop motor mounts on my 408 and it barely seems like I can fit a vic jr on there now.

Thanks for the info, and nice ride by the way!
Do the drop motor mounts cause any ground clearance issues with your oil pan or exhaust?
