Re: 351c 4v into 66 coupe

Yes, your motor mounts will work. A couple of suggestions before putting the motor in, put disc brakes on it, make sure all of the suspension components are in good shape and relocate the upper control arms. With the additional weight and HP you will want it to handle and STOP. Otherwise you won't enjoy driving it.

Re: 351c 4v into 66 coupe

Roger that, Is there a kit for relocating the upper control arms? I planned on adding disc brakes to the front. I thought the existing suspension would work with new springs......I was going to move my battery to the trunk as well. between the tubular headers and battery relocation, I thought I would be ok with the weight. You think not?

Re: 351c 4v into 66 coupe

It will be a nice driving car (meaning you can push it) but it won't be like having a small block in there. With the added weight you need the dropped upper control arms and the more aggressive (performance oriented) caster and camber settings. Go to the "Tony Branda" web site, and there is a good tech article on lowering you upper control arms. You don't have to purchase a kit.

Re: 351c 4v into 66 coupe

I dropped a cleveland in my '69. I believe the '69 engine bay is bigger but it still is a tight fit. The only real snag was that I had to ditch the power steering to clear the Hooker headers.
Ground clearance with my headers is an issue also. There is a speed bump in front of my house and I cringe every time I scrape over it. Keep that in mind before relocating the upper arms.

These are the best swap headers on the market. But you will pay big $$$ for them. Up to you.

Re: 351c 4v into 66 coupe

Going to slightly high jack the thread. I too was wondering about the Cleveland motors. I bought a car and it came with a free Cleveland. The car has a 302 in it now, but I was wondering if I should swap the Clevaland. I don't know if it's 4 or 2 barrel. One of the things I read about the 4 barrel is that it does not run on pump gas very well and likes rpm in excess of 5-6rpm in order to get the use out of the heads.

The 2 barrel engine I read is ok in it's stock form on the street and is good for about 350hp. Now the 64k question... IS THIS TRUE? What can I learn about these motors. Are they junk or what. The reason I said High jack because the car I bought was a 1970 Torino. I will put this out on the general tech also to see what we get from experienced guys with this motor.

Don't believe all you hear. Use the 4V closed chamber heads and a set of gears. Don't forget to wipe that smile off your face before you get home to the GF or wife though.

Re: 351c 4v into 66 coupe

Just to add my input here since I might be the only one in this thread that currently has a 351c in a 65/6

1. Use the Fordpowertrain.com headers. The tubular auto headers I had are pieces of crap that were a mess of spaghetti pipes that required the deletion of the front cross member.
2. Use 64 falcon (early 65 mustang) 3 piece motor mounts. The later 65 and 66 two piece jobs hold the motor higher and it fits better with the 3 piece mounts
3. 1.75 drop base air cleaner to clear the stock hood with a decent intake (I used the excelerator 4v for a number of years and ran a 14x2.5 filter
4. Cooling, stock 66 rad won't do it. Either upgrade to an uber expensive extra thick alum to fit the stock opening or buy a 69/70 rad and simply cut the radiator opening to fit...if you do this then you can also use the stock 70 coolant hoses
