66' Headers?
Will a pair of shorty headers fit on my 66' Mustang?
I don't want JBA (too expensive), Hedman ceramic are too expensive. Hedman standard I have heard have leaking problems.
Will BBK shorties for an 86-90 5.0 work?
I forgot to mention that I have rack and pinion and a T-5 cable clutch.
Thanks!

Re: 66' Headers?
Shorties will work.
Hedmans are working great for me.
I have the long tubes on a 351w.

Re: 66' Headers?
Headmen have been making headers for a very long time, I would like to think they have worked any bugs out buy now.
Plus, I just ordered a set of headman 302 long tubes for my 66 from Jegs for $144.00 and a Jegs 2.5 inch header back bolt on kit for $180.00 Watch out at Summit, they do not have headmen 302 headers, they do have headman 351 w headers.
I would like to think there will be no issues with my install, and how it works for me.
If it leaks a little bit at the headers... thats great... Less backpressure...(laughs)

Re: 66' Headers?
You get what you pay for in headers. There is a reason why some headers are mor expensive than others ie: flange thickness , mandrel bent tubes, weld process, and coatings. Go with the JBA shorties you won't be dissapointed and they will be the only headers you will need to buy, or you can buy 2 or 3 sets of cheap headers when they fall apart. Just my opinion.

Re: 66' Headers?
I've been running Hedman long tubes on my 64.5 since the late 70s, with no problems. I don't know if they still do, but they used to have a lifetime warranty.

Re: 66' Headers?
What brand of rack and pinion do you have? If it's Flaming River you're going to have a bear of a time finding headers that will fit.

This is normally true with most things but I have had excellent luck with alot of cheapie headers..I have used quite a few sets of black jack and hedman headers with excellent results...Just because they are expensive isn't a guarantee they will fit well.

Re: 66' Headers?
I have Hedman headers on a 302 in a 65 Mustang and the fit is fine. Just be forewarned, the Summit brand exhaust kit fits fine until you get to the pipe from the headers to the H pipe. There isn't even a way to cobble something using what they supplied. When the weather improves I will need to take it in and have the connector pipes built for it.

Re: 66' Headers?
You would be much better off spending the money for a good set of headers. As I have found, There is an awful lot of cheap garbage out there with attractive price tags. "You get what you pay for", is true most of the time, In this case, as far as headers are concerned, it definetly applies.

Re: 66' Headers?
I bought a set of "Dougs" headers and they are awesome in every way! Fit up, assembley, finish and yes they are little more, but worth every penny.
