I found a 1968 R Code Fastback. Whats the ballpark value?

Another alternative, like what I am doing, would be to build your own BBlock stang. I always wanted 428Cj or Boss "9". My 69 Mach 1 was originally a decently optioned M code. When it is done it will sport a 521CJ, with B514 heads and a tremec TKO 600. I have about $ 4200 in the motor. With 9.8:1 comp, it puts out 575HP! That's on pump gas. You also dont have to wring it to the moon like and FE or small block to make power which also means less wear. granted it is a street car and looks completely original inside and out with the addition of a set of Magnum 500's. It is Meadowlark Yellow with the black stripes/gold centers. No Ram Air. Until you open the hood and notice the "429" Cobra jet on the hood it looks as it did in 69. tach and all gauges, folding seat, console, light teak (early) woodgrain. It has staggered shocks and the Boss 302 reinforcement kit, as well as total control subframe connectors and traction masters.

I love it just the same. had it since 1980. A tasteful restomod also brings good money if that is what you are looking for one day. I dont think i will have a problem selling it when I am older if I need someone to change my diaper one day!

I love FE's to death and spent a small fortune on them over the years in other cars. The parts for them are still plentiful but get more and more expensive.

I've owned two 68.5 R codes. The last one I had sounds almost exactly like the one you found, it was a 16K original mile previous drag car, no rust, mini-tubbed, roll cage, no drivetrain car. I sold it about 5 years ago for $7500 and the value of these cars have gone up tremendously since then. I think $4K would be a great buy. The sheetmetal can be repaired and a period correct drivetrain can be found. If I had a chance to buy another one like that I would. Good luck.

If not N then either someone removed the heads or not a scj . Many ways to tell what it is but I agree with all post it is WELL worth it .

I agree. I would safely say that $31,000 is a safe price for these cars for the long run, especially drivers. A trailer queen like the ones sold at major auctions will of course bring more. If you can;t enjoy driving them they are no fun anyway.

I like your car , how long ya had it ? I go through your town alot but stayed on 95 passing . Ya car a 4 speed ? Anyway looks sharp .

My car is an r code 69 full race . I am not the one that made a full blown race car out of this r code . He had balls to convert it . The 428scj is long gone as well tranny . Now has a stroker 427 side oiler with doug nash 4 speed . Speed shop did their best to talk him out of tubbing it but did anyway . At least it was cut on a machine and tubbed with a donor car . Could be put back but I will keep it a race car being it has a long history . I am sure the value of it was hurt being this way .

Some I talked to says no being where it has been and paper work it has . It goes very streight even wheel stands . I hate to raise the bars to get higher . It has enough power to turn over backwards but scares me . Not as much fear as wrecking this car . Took a long time for me to find one like I used to have . I will never afford another . The prices r code parts are getting any dent these days will cost a arm and leg . Again nice car there , keep it that way .
