Re: Front disc brake conversion
Thanks Stu, mine definately have the screw in vice banjo fittings, but I did a cast ref on the spindles, they are off a 70 Mustang/Torino?
I have the car quest part number for the left calipre thats on the car now, I am curious to see what it crosses over too. Will let you know if your interested.

Re: Front disc brake conversion
Mine are 68-73 Mustang brakes, screw in type hoses, makes it simple, they are on the car now.
I guess now I have to look at suspension differences in 67 & 68 when the PO put the 68 conversion on, what diff is in alignment, ball joints, bushings etc?

That's odd, I have the '73 Mustang spindles and disk on my Falcon and they are the 'banjo' fitting. Check any Mustang catalog and they will state the same.

Re: Front disc brake conversion
Thanks, have been digging around with Bendix and Russel Brake lines, there were both calipres used 68-73, thats where I ran into trouble until I realized this, like with the braided lines, the numbers in NPD, Year One and Jegs all had 68-71 then 71-73, but the actual line for the 3/8 fitting on a single piston calipre was something totally different.
They are on, and working, and the only diff I can see in suspension w/regards to the 67 vs 68 spindles was the lower contral arm ball joint.

Re: Front disc brake conversion
It could be that the Granada style hoses will screw directly into the older calipers after all the copper washer is actually what does the sealing in both cases. I've never actually had the chance to try it so it looks like we may have learned something! That being said the caliper/alignment hardware and pad mounting stuff is way more complex on the early stuff compared to the simpler Granada gear. I have no issues with the early stuff if the car is already equipped. I just think the Granada swap is good if you are getting rid of existing drums.

67's used 4 piston style brakes that used the same spindle as a drum that year whereas a '68 uses a new disc only spindle. The same spindle was used in 1969 but in 1970 they changed but only to use larger wheel bearings. That style continued to 1973.
Glad you got them all working regardless of the various parts! Ford engineering changes could drive you mad sometimes!

Re: Front disc brake conversion
If I was starting from scratch, I would go with the Granada, and I thought thats what I had - when I bought the car. But looking at whats on the car, and what the Granada stuff came up with, I had to dig, cast numbers tell no tales! The spindles for the 68 aint cheap either so another good reason to go Granada if I didnt already have the 68 (actually 70) spindles on the car.
My original issue was the correct Master cyl, which now is easy - also found that there aint a lot of diff in the 67 - 70's MC power or manual disc MC's. So now I have it figured out, just need to plumb in the correct MC and combo/prop valve (have the manual disc stuff on now, why the brakes dont work so well). (I have a bunch of MCs on my work bench - comparing)
Appreciate the help - I will let you know how it all comes together once all the parts are matched up.

Re: Front disc brake conversion
AFter much digging and comparing, and ASSuming, I think I am figuring out the brake lines. The PO has the 68-73 Single Piston, but finding the brake line has been tough. I just ASSumed that since there were screw in brake lines on it now, thats what I needed - but from what I am now finding, it should have the banjo's on there - you folks all agree? I dont have the brake hose bolts, are those an NPD purchase or are other sources available.
Thanks Gydyup
