Question
How much of a diference is there between a 67 coupe engine bay that had a six, compared to one with an eight? Thinkin about buying another 67 coupe straight body no dents and no rust needs motor, trans, drive line, and a paint job for $1,200. It had a six in it but wanted to know if the engine bays had much in diference.
Thanks David

Re: Question
You will have to swap over the engine mounting system - belly bar and such but the engine compartments are the same.
Do you have 4 or 5 bolt wheels on the 6 cylinder car?

Re: Question
The four lugs indicates the lighter duty brakes, spindles, and rear end that only came in the six cylinder cars.
If you plan on installing an eight cylinder with any power, you are going to have to upgrade that small, six cylinder rear end.
And if you replace the rear end with an eight or nine inch which will have five lugs, you will want to go ahead and upgrade the front spindles and brakes as well. (Otherwise you will have five lugs in the rear and four lugs in the front. Not to mention crappy brakes)
And if it matters to you, having four lugs will always be a give-a-way that the car is not an original V8 car.
On my six cylinder car, I went with the Granada power disc brake conversion on the front and put together an eight inch for the rear using early 90's Crown Victoria disc brakes. Then I added front and rear sway bars, new coil springs with 1" drop, leaf springs, shocks, sub frame connectors, and Competition Engineering traction bars. The whole set up ended up costing me less than fifteen hundred dollars and is a considerable upgrade from even the factory V8 stuff.

Re: Question
Also realize that six cylinder cars don't have 2 torque boxes as the V-8 larger than 289 cars do which means these cars tend to twist. I know 65-6 six cars didnt have torque boxes at all, at least the coupes. The 67-8 have one on the drivers side only if memory serves me correctly. I added torque boxes to my 66 coupe to improve the rigidity. I would also consider Total Control subframe connectors. My 2 cents.

Re: Question
Changing out a six banger to an eight will be a very expensive proposition indeed.
Front steering and suspension upgrade to V8...$500-1000
Torque boxes....$200-300
Rear end...six banger rears won't last any longer than the proverbial snowball in *#@$...$1000
Tranny has to go.. $500 Minimum
Also if you beef up the V8 much, you'll need to upgrade your drum brakes to disc...front only about $500-800 minimum
I suggest you rework the six banger to get it running in top form.

Re: Question
Some of the C4s behind 6 cylinders are virtually the same as the ones behind V-8s. They have the same clutches (5 in fwd pack and 4 in the direct pack) most of those are in the 250, 240 and 300 inch sixes.
