8.8 Rearend Strength???
i have a 67 mustang coupe i am building a stoker 302 for it dual quads and high flow heads i was wondering how much horsepower can a stock 8.8 take? i might add nitrous soo i need to know if it will handle it i plan on using a kit... a kit that makes it a limited slip by changing the pumpkin... but it will still be a 28 spline.. does anyone recomend using a 32 spline? for strength i dont know how much power i will be pushing can someone estimate for me with what i have told u?

Stock 67 rear ends are 8", not 8.8 - unless you've swapped in a late model unit. They are good up to about 350 HP or so, depending. Clutch type differentials last about 10 minutes when drag racing. For a nitrous unit, a 9" with 31 spline would be recommended. That's only one less than a 32, but it's still good. From the info in the post, I'd say it won't hardly idle let alone make any power. You'll have to post more info.

Re: 8.8 Rearend Strength???
You'll need to increase your budget up some from the "almost nothing" level to get that done. You're talking nearly $3500+ in suspension mods only. Lesse - a 30 over stroker at 9:1 with a dry sump. My first recommendation would be to step away from the magazines for a while. Review some of the 331 and 347 builds here and maybe engage those folks about what's up. 350 is reasonable, 9:1 is not really high compression. You plan to use all Edelbrock stuff, get their cam too. If you run the dual carb intake, you'll need the tight lobe separation to help the thing idle. The dual carb intakes are cool looking, but make consistently less power than a single 4 bbl intake.

You need to figure out what you want first, what are your goals, what do you want to do with it.
Please forget about what you "hurd"........ Seems to me you been getting a little bit of misinformation, we'll help but you'll need to listen a little too !!

Re: 8.8 Rearend Strength???
Yes its lighter and more efficient, but slightly weaker Stock vs Stock.
I'm going to guess about 30-40# lighter and thats 28 spline vs. 28 spline

Re: 8.8 Rearend Strength???
Thier are a bunch of nice Street / Strip builds already posted on here.
And 400-500 hp is pretty easy to do N/A with a 347" motor with good heads
I wouldnt waste my time with 2x4's, a single 4 will make make more power and be much simpler and less expensive.
You may even want to consider a Ford Racing Crate Motor.
