I recently just bought a 1969 mustang w/o a title. Does anyone know how I can obtain a title?

Re: Need help!!1969 Mustang car title

There are a few easy spots where you can trace the vin number . You have to have a bill of sale where you bought it . In nc we goto the dmv (department of motor vehicles ) They will give you the copies of the car who had titled it beforehand . It took shop here 6 months to get that on a 69 r code car . Not the title but copies of who had owned and titled the car . You can bond the car for what it is worth and that will get you papers to get tags . After you had the car 2 years the dmv will issue the correct title . So thats what he is telling me , that was last week as well . Personally I think there is a bit more to deal with .

I got to get a title same as you on a 66 . A junk yard can get a title a bit better for after so long in their possession it becomes theirs and to obtain a title will be granted with little ease . Call dmv and ask , simple . They will give you the correct paper work and set you on the right road to getting a title .

I think the 2 year waiting period is to make sure whoever has the title , gives them 2 years to come claim the car if you cannot get in touch with the last owner . A bit more there as well like making sure bonded in case car was stolden . Thats where the bond on car comes in somehow , donot see how for you the losser anyway . A duplicut copy title of last owner will give you a start to know who had it , name address and maybe get in touch with him to fill papers out for a lost title , good luck on that .

Depending on your state, you might not be the lawful owner of the car.
Why did the prior owner not have title?
Personally I would never buy a car I was planning on investing any $$ into w/o a title.
As rcode said go to the dmv

Re: Need help!!1969 Mustang car title

on my 73 coupe, it was sitting in a shed, they had it as a parts car, so no title, i went on the Minnesota DMV and searched around, found out all i needed to do was get a bill of sale, have the seller write why he didnt have a title, take pics from all 4 sides, and then go into the DMV, they checked the VIN, and if they dont have a record of it in the past 7 years, you can fill out an application for a new title, and your all set. I dont know if i would recommend going to the DMV, when i asked at the DMV i was given a different answer everytime i asked a different person. I would say get on your states DMV site and see what you can find there.

Before i even got the cars i got the VINs and called the local dispatch to make sure they wernt reported stolen. If you havent done that yet, i would probably do it.
