Re: Newbie with a pic

It was originally a 351 Cleveland 4V with open chambers. We maintained the stock internals for the most part but used a small dome piston to get the compression up. It's about a 10.2 to 1 at current. We also replaced the iron intake with a vintage Ford D1ZX aluminum piece. We added Ram Air because I liked it. Ram Air was not available on the 351 4 barrel cars in 73 and is not concours correct. Here's a pic during the test fit and install on my Ram Air system. It and the valve covers came off of a VERY rusty 71 Boss 351.

Thanks, Dean

Re: Newbie with a pic

Nice ride! I have a 71 Mach 1 "M" code with the 351C closed chamber heads, factory 4 spd w/Hurst shifter. (all factory) I added a "Ram Air". I have two questions, first what carb are you using, and second, did you have to make any adjustments to fit the rubber ring on the ram air, after installing the new intake and carb? Currently I have a "Torker" intake and a Weber 750, everything fits but the rubber ring is too tight to close the hood. Welcome aboard and I am new to this site as well. So far this site has been awesome!!

Re: Newbie with a pic

I used the factory performance D1ZX intake, THE original Motorcraft 4 barrel carb etc ... BUT I had to remove the EGR spacer to get the clearance. The Torker intake is taller than my Ford piece and that's probably the source of your troubles. Post some pics when you get time

One other thing. Depending on what year Ram Air base you're using, they were different. The 73 2 barrel bases were shorter than the earlier 4 barrel bases because of the use of the EGR plate etc ...

Re: Newbie with a pic

Thanks, I will post some pics in a week or so, I am out of town until then. I believe the "Torker" is the problem, I am not sure what to do, but for now, the plastic ducting sits flat on the base when the hood is closed. I need about 3/4's of an inch or so in order to use the rubber ring. For now I just keep it off until I go to a show and leave the hood open. Thanks for the feedback.

Nice 73. I have a 71 Mach 1 that was an M code 3 speed car originally. It is also in the rotissiere phase at the moment. It is grabber lime with the black stripes. I also added ram air to a 70 351C4V "quench" I am putting in it. I was given a set of new in the box Boss 351 valve covers for it many years ago. It will now sport a PA C-4 and a nodular with 3.91 gears. It is for my wife. It had the folding seat, tach and gauges, console, A/C etc. I hope it turns out as nice as yours.
