Question No brakes?

ok guys got a question car is a 65 coupe V8 manual drums all around problem is i have 0 brakes that is i push the brake pedal and it travels without resistance to the floor. they worked before i changed a leaky wheel cylinder. i replaced the wheel cylinder and brake shoes on both back wheels and put the tires back on. zero brakes. so, i held the brakes depressed and opened the bleeder valve on the new wheel cylinder. tightened it up, after pumping brakes there is resistance but after a few minutes again there are no brakes. what am i missing?

You need to repeat the process until all of the air is out of the lines. With 2 people, you need to start at the back passenger corner, farthest away, and do each wheel until the pedal becomes hard to depress. it will take some brake fluid and time.

Re: No brakes?

Simple bleeding proceedures.

1: Open the bleeder at the RR cylinder.

2: Depress pedal to the floor adn hold.

3: CLOSE BLEEDER SCREW

4: Let Brake pedal come back up

5: Repeat 3 times then CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL.
6: Complete this procedure on the LR cylinder, then the RF then the LF and you will have ALL of your brakes back.

Once you have done this one time and only have SOME brake pedal and you need to pump, all you must do then is Adjust your rear brake shoes out until they touch the surface of the drums and the drums are hard to get on and off, or there is a tiny bit of drag on the rear drum. You will then have a FULL and HARD pedal.

Re: No brakes?

Do yourself a favor and ignore my instructions and Adjust the brakes BEFORE bleeding them. Then you will be SPOT ON!

Re: No brakes?

You sure that you do not have TWO problems?

For one description it seems that you have a weak or pooped out master cylinder. As eventially the air in system will go away, past the seals, but if can't apply enough pressure to get there, usually the next morning, then that indicates a poor master cylinder.

Re: No brakes?

Two coolest tools I ever bought, the Russell brake bleeders, and the one person brake bleeder vacuum pump - from Sears. Awesome.
