Earlier Mustangs use the same length driveshaft as your 67'. The 351 and larger motors use a 1" shorter driveshaft to accommodate the large yoke on the 9" rearend.
How far out of the tranny does the machined part of the yoke stick out? Typically it should be about 1". If it sticks out a full 2", then there is a problem. Other things that will cause the seal to leak is a bad seal (duh) or the tailshaft bushing can be bad.
