Driveshaft length??

HI,
My 67 Mustang has the 289 and C4 and 8 inch rear. The rear seal on the trans leaks quite a bit and when I was looking at it the yoke doesn't seem to engage the transmission far enough. Is it possible the driveshaft is from and earlier car and too short? What is the proper length driveshaft for a 67?

Earlier Mustangs use the same length driveshaft as your 67'. The 351 and larger motors use a 1" shorter driveshaft to accommodate the large yoke on the 9" rearend.

How far out of the tranny does the machined part of the yoke stick out? Typically it should be about 1". If it sticks out a full 2", then there is a problem. Other things that will cause the seal to leak is a bad seal (duh) or the tailshaft bushing can be bad.

Yes, the yoke sticks out at least two inches. I have a new seal but I wonder why the d/shaft is so short.
