Rear end help

Can i turn my conventional 6 inch 2.80:1 to a 8 inch. Without changing the hole housing to an 8 inch and just install a new ring and pinion gear with the same housing.

Correct. The internal parts are not interchangeable between the 2 rears. To upgrade to an 8 ", one must replace everything--housing, (center section which contains the gears), axles, brakes, brake drums, and wheels. It's all or nothing.
