'68 shock tower mods

Need info. on purchase of a kit to modify shock towers for installing of a 390 with headers into a '68. The motor has been in, but is just to tight for comfort, need alittle breathing room.

Re: '68 shock tower mods

The 68's came with factory installed 390 and 428CJ engines. I've owned several 428 mustangs and personally I'd never modify the towers just to get more room but if it's something you want to do you can either notch the tops of the towers like the boss 429's and weld steel back into the notch or buy an aftermarket front suspension kit and do away with them entirely. As far as I know, there is no "kit" to notch the towers, it would just be cut and weld.

Re: '68 shock tower mods

Before you do anything, make sure your shock towers aren't starting to separate and fall in. Car Craft covered it a few months back, and the article might still be online. I haven't seen one as bad as the CC project, but it does happen.

You're not gonna have much room around a 390 anyway, but separated shock towers will make it worse.
