351C Advice

I have a 351c in a 72 Mach. I bought the car a couple of years ago and it sees very light driving, the motor was supposed to have been rebuilt and I have put maybe 5k miles on it since I have owned it. I have put a MSD distributor on it and a 700 holley carb with edelbrock intake and headers. the car has a stock cam and the 2v heads.

My dillema is that I want to keep the 2v style heads so I was thinking the australian heads (powerheads.com) or do you folks have another route to go with the heads?

The next thought is a cam to go with the type of heads and mods listed above, what would be the best choices? car will be a weekend hot rod, not a strip queen but something that should sound and perform well on the street with civil manners.

It has the FMX tranny (wan C6) and I plan on upgrading the 9" rear end to a posi 3.5 or wquivilant ratio.

thanks!

There is nothing wrong with the 2V heads the way they are. You're definitely going to need more cam for the carb. There also no reason to swap the FMX for the C6. Check out this forum, it's all things Cleveland and is the best resource for building a C. Ford 335 "Cleveland" Series Engine Forum

Re: 351C Advice

I have a 72 Mach 1 that is an H code car that has had a 4 barrel Eidelbrock performer manifold and a Holley 750 double pumper and Ram air added .I still have the stock 2 barrel heads they I was told are the best fit for this set up due to the smaller holes for better performance. Also a 6AL MSD box and blaster coil.My Mach also has a CJ cam ,double roller timing chain and solid lifters. You can also add performance enhancements through different rearend gears as well.Good luck in your pursuit!

Thumbs up Re: 351C Advice

Check out Cylinder Head Intonations or CHI heads website. They are making a 3v design that takes the best of the 4V and 2V head designs and brings them together. They have intake runner volumes from 185 cc runner to their latest release this year of a 260 cc runner. They can make 600 hp right out of the box. I think they start at about $2,000 per set. The 260 cc heads were designed with the help of John Kassie which has won several of the world engine builders build off's using 351 Cleveland motors.
Also if you are using a 750 cfm holley on a set of 2V heads that were designed for a 500 CFM 2 barrel carb you are trying to push way to much air through to small of exhaust ports! Hope this helps bro

Kelly hotrod - Mustang engine/drivetrain specs
A 400 HP 351C open chamber 2V engine. Idles at about 800, runs on 91 pump gas, drive it anywhere. Pushes the 70 Mustang as quick as 7.76 in the 1/8 mile.
