Re: Summit Header Dual Exhaust Kit

I used a Summit 2 1/2" system on my 68. Guess what - my passenger side didn't exit straight either. What I did was pull it back off the car, put a piece of 2 1/4"ish tube inside it and bend it a bit. Eventually I got it where I wanted it. there's a little less clearance over the axle on one side than the other, but it doesn't hit or anything. Also it was a royal pain to get the exhaust to not hit the body and vibrate anywhere. If I had it to do over I'd definitely inquire at a shop about prices for a custom system.

Re: Summit Header Dual Exhaust Kit

Sounds like a lot of people purchased the Summit kits and have mixed results with them.

I've also purchased the Summit 2.25" kit with the Summit x-pipe to go with it. I fit this to a 1966 Mustang out the rear with the exit holes in the valance (this really takes patience). In addition, after the mufflers I've added some additional connectors to remove the tail sections if needed.

I do have a MIG, cut-off saw, and extra pipe. In my situation there was a lot of fitment issues, because my car is lowered and I wanted the exhaust to tuck up nicely, x-pipe install, headers were at different angles to exhaust, additional connectors, and the worst part was fitting the tail sections after the axle (you will have a rubber brake line to watch out for and shocks). The Summit mufflers have the exit pipe in the wrong place. It's on one side and is suppose to be centered (if you follow the original Mustang configuration). Last but not least, the gas tank on the drivers side is very close to the tail pipe if you go that far out.

Would I do this again...yea, because I like things to be just right and I now know what to look forward too.

Re: Summit Header Dual Exhaust Kit

i did the 2.25 kit. I cut and welded every piece they sent b/c I didnt like the way they had it designed and seup. my Try-Y header points at an angle instead of straight back so at that point it was chop/cut/rebuild. I have no issues with it banging but I dont care for the look of the tailipes coming out below the valance so Im going to take them off and dump before the rear. I had no problems with the kit being 150 bucks. But mandral bent almost bolt in kit you cant go wrong for the money. Hell the exhaust shop would charge you that much for mufflers.

Re: Summit Header Dual Exhaust Kit

trashline,,,, you crack me up.. I had the same experiance. My headers don't come back straight so I had to cut right from day one. I can't get the one tail pipe come out straight so I also took them off and put turn downs after the mufflers before the rear end. =8-)

I am going to make my own H pipe cause I think it will be easy with a extra piece of pipe cut from my extra tail pipe or just a cheap piece from the local parts store.

=8-)

Back to the summit kit. I got my kit for $135 before the price went up. The kit is a good value. Are there better deals out there? Sure. But this is a good kit for the money and if you have headers that come straight back this should fit pretty good. If you need to fab them they will fit even better.

I think all toll with my headers, extra quick remove clamps, and upcoming 'H' pipe I think I am into my exhaust for $250. If you can get a custom kit for that at the local exhaust shop do it, but make sure that you can easily drop it when you want.

Are you going with 2.5" exhaust? If so, I have some pieces left over if you need them. I don't foresee ever using them so I might as well get rid of them.
