Headers for 1969 351W 5 speed

Can someone recommend really good long tube headers for my 1969 Mach 1, 351W, manual trans?

Re: Headers for 1969 351W 5 speed

What cylinder heads are you running?..I'm running a set of hooker 6208s but there is a bit of a port mismatch with my edelbrock vic jr heads..Most aftermarket heads have a square port and these headers have a rectangular port shape to match a ported stock head style port...They fit in the chassis well and work with the toploader no problem(use stock 1969 linkage)...I've heard the #7 and 8 rear spark plugs can be a bit of a chore to change if you have power brakes due to the brake booster being in the way....You can also check out FPA....

Re: Headers for 1969 351W 5 speed

I just removed my old headers, not sure what brand they are, and I installed my new "Dougs Ceramic Headers". I would highly recommend these headers for the following reasons;
Awesome fit
Awesome fit
Awesome fit
Great sound
Great looks.

With that said I have to tell you the following. First the old headers were resting on the steering box, and they had been bent to fit that position, creating a weak spot for early wear and faliure. Also concentrated heat will lead to steering issues shortly. Second the old headers filled the passenger side so that the pipes were approx 2 inches from the firewall. It looked like spagetti down there as they were trying to get all of the pipes the same length. The new headers are approx 7 inches from the firewall, (and are the same length) I can now open the vents and actually have cool outside air coming in. Third I gained approx 2.5 inches of ground clearance. These headers look as if they were hand made for this car, I really can't believe the fit, it is simply the best I have ever seen! All of this on a 71 Mach 1 351C with toploader. I paid more for these 565.00, but they are worth every penny. Just my two cents.

Frdnut, about the hooker 6208's you mentioned. Do you know how the fit is with a tremec 5-speed with a cable clutch setup?

I don't have any personal experience with anything but a toploader but the 5 speed should be no problem..The cable I don't know about..I have some pictures of the headers on the engine(out of the car) if that would be any help to you?

Re: Headers for 1969 351W 5 speed

I had the hooker super comps on my 67/351, but when I put in the cable clutch the hookers wouldnt give enough room to run the cable, they all collected right where the arm/rod or now cable are supposed to go.

I am using Modern Driveline cable set up, and now Heddman headers for a 67 Must 351 conversion. I did see in Sumitt or somewhere where Hooker had a 351 "conversion" header, and the number is different from what I and Frdnut have, good luck. I love the cable but hated to give up those big tubes. The Heddmans are 1 5/8 and I can certainly hear the difference in them.

When I build the 408, I will give up the cable for the hookers.

I recommend Stan's Headers. You'll spend some money, but the quality is unmatched.

Re: Headers for 1969 351W 5 speed

I have a set of Hooker super comps on my 69 w/351w & tremec 5spd tranny. Good sound & dyno numbers but a pain to work with and I drag them a little too often (pass side). Still running the z clutch bar not looking forward to the day I have to pull that one out. I've heard that a lot of R&P steering kits won't work with the Hooker SC's also, bummer. Good set of headers otherwise.
