removing plugs from 351C

I am a new member and relatively new owner of a 71 Mustang conv 351C.
I need some guidance as I am having a hell of a time removing 2 of the plugs from the engine. The access is severely restricted by a steel bracket, might be able to remove the bracket from below but I find it hard to believe that that is the only way to get the plugs out. In addition I can't get my hand in there to re-attach the sp wire. The problem plugs are the 3rd on the L and 2nd on the R. Is there some sort of special adapter needed to reach these 2 plugs ?

Well, I got one of those pesky Cobra-Jet engines in my 1970. It takes about 1 to 2 hours to replace the spark plugs. I needed special length extensions, swivel headed socket wrenches, and other special tools that only apply to one particular plug each time. There are those hidden by the shock towers, the air equipment nozzles, the pits is the one under the power brake cylinder for cannot even see that one.

Have to follow the spark plug wires down to top of plug on rear half of engine each time.

Nothing special, I asked at a few garages back when it began taking so long. Found only simple answer was that it took them equally long too. That is why they usually charge a higher rate for a tune-up on certain engines. It takes longer on them.

Removing the valve cover makes the job a bit easier.

Thanks, I had thought of that but worried about debris. I'll cover it with something as that seems the easiest way. Thanks again for the help.

A tip - use a length of 5/16 or 3/8 fuel hose and slip it over the end of the plug. This will let you spin it out once it's loose and makes it easier to insert the new one.

I bought a swivel spark plug socket from Snap On. It was a little expensive for a socket ($50 i believe) but well worth it.
