In-Dash Tachometer

I'm sure this is a stupid question... but....

I have a 68 coup that does not have a tachometer. There is only one small gauge opening left in the stock dashboard. After a bit of looking, it seems pretty hard to find a tach that fits in the small opening (or maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place). Anyway, what is the best solution for putting in a tach? Find a small one or try to rearrange the existing gauges to put the tach in the large right hole (where the fuel and voltage is)?

Optimally, I would like it to look pretty "normal".... not too high tech.

Suggestions for tach's (on a budget)?

There are small tachs that will fit in the clock (center) small opening in the upper gauges..I have seen them on ebay..They may not be too accurate though but any 2 1/16th sized guage should fit in that opening...If you put a tach in the larger gauge opening in the bottom you will lose your gas guage on the 68 model....For that reason I have stuck with the tach on the steering column with a hose clamp but I am looking at more options with shift lights and such..

OR you can just buy a small aftermarket gauge and use the clock blank off face and mount the tach to it. You'll need to pull the needle and face off it then drill the clock blank then sandwich it between the tach face and workings. You'll need to trim the gauge enclosure too. I just bought a cheapy one ($20) and did that. I don't need the tach really it's just there for looks and that clock blank is useless anyway! The script style isn't quite the same on mine but pretty close. The tach's lighting won't be seen but it will be lit by the stock dash illumination so will look similar.

I used before the in dash tach from Retrogauge, very nice product! Easy to install and the price is correct.

Here is an "Autometer" 2 1/16" tach in my clock hole.

the last thing that is is a stupid question. I thought I was stuck with a tach on the column. My coupe is slowly heading toward "sleeper." Mine's an auto, but often shifted manually - I should ditch the big column tach, use one of these mini-tachs and put a separate shift light somewhere.
