Ouch!

I was giving a friend a ride the other day and broke my rear end. This kinda sucks! I have a friend who will hook me up tomorrow with a new housing and bearings. I just need to get new seals and set it up.

Re: Ouch!

That Sucks!

I find it interesting that it broke at the thick part and not where the casting had been ground down thin in order to clear the ring gear.

LOL! No fat dudes!

Would setting up the lash too tight cause this? I would like to know if the builder has a part in this.

Your engine is too powerfull! Please give us impressions with your blower. Hope that now, you tuned it a little bit.

Re: Ouch!

Hey guys. I discovered not only did I break the third member, but I bent my spring perches. I discovered this after I got everything back together and tried to drive it. The perches seem kinda cheesy. I was thinking of making some solid perches. I know I can box them in and it would be just as strong.

Re: Ouch!

Hi Sponge,
The Weiand supercharger is very fun. I sounds awesome when it's winding up. I have more than enough torque through second. I have a feeling I'm not done breaking stuff.

Parts broken by excess power are really cool , although fixing them can be very hard on the wallet. That "supercharged toploader tranny" will find the weak points in the drivetrain very easily.

There is a good chance that your housing pinion retainer was damaged when the spring perches gave out and the pinion angle became all whack. Hopefully you are planning on beefing up your entire drivetrain to help prevent future damage.

Re: Ouch!

Mike, glad to hear you tore up your rear! Just kidding. I did the same with my car with my blower too. It went pop on the old 9" when I was doing a big burnout. Those blowers just make so much friggin' torque that parts are gonna break if you don't have some tough ones. I also bent the crap out of one of my Shelby traction bars at the dragstrip. I replaced it w/ a Detroit Locker in an N-case 9" housing and went w/ 31 spline Moser axles. I don't even think about hurting my rear anymore. Great insurance and some good deals on ebay for rebuilt 3rd members from some NASCAR teams. I hope to post a video of my car at the strip soon. The blower is all you hear when it goes down the track and everyone notices it. -Mike
