adjusting vmatic 2 shifter for c4

whats the best way to do this? I have to overshoot and come back into each gear when I'm shifting from first and going up. when shifting from park going "down", all engage. I cant quite find the sweet spot. any suggestions?

I don't know if this will help, but C4 trannys were designed to start in 2nd if you engage from park and just back to drive. To have first come into the mix, you have to drop the shifter all the way back to first from park and then move forward to drive. Kinda weird but it works. This might help you figure out your problem.

blidzy,
C4s were never made to start in any gear but PARK and NEUTRAL.

afurlong,
The factory says to put your shifter into DRIVE and lock it there against the 2nd gear detent. disconnect the linkage at the lever and put the transmission lever into the DRIVE detent. Reconnect the linkage so the lever on the transmission doesn't move.

Sorry, I should have said to shift to low and then move up to drive. I am well aware that you couldn't "start" the engine in any other than park or neutral. I didn't mean start the engine. I meant start shifting after a start to engage drive properly.

I always just drop it into drive.
Properly adjusted linkage goes into any gear you put the shifter in.
