Do you agree? Maybe you've a diaphragm clutch style?
Affirmative, switched it to a HD Ford Racing diaphragm clutch. I heard the diaphragm clutch holds better and operates much more smoothly. Any good aftermarket clutch set should work. It definitely feels better than the old z-bar and three-finger arrangement.

A 3 finger style does work correctly or does not work at all with a clutch cable kit?

Re: Manual transmission: Clutch cable kit

What clutch cable and pedal setup did you use Sponge? I am trying to decide on which to get, the cable pull type or the casing push type.

Both clutch cable kits use the same type: pull.

For the pedal setup, I found one on Ebay and I just changed everything on it. The pedal shaft has been installed using a roller kit. With the clutch cable kit, it does not require the big spring over the clutch pedal.

Mustang Steve makes a very nice roller bearing pedal cable conversion kit, you might check his site out as well.
This was the cable housing push one I was talking about. Thanks Barron

Re: Manual transmission: Clutch cable kit

My local classic mustang restorer guy told me to use the z-bar linkage that was original. I have tri-y headers and clearance for a cable is next to impossible without burning a cable.

I thought about protecting full cable with a thermo-protective housing?

I thought about that too. Maybe using heat wrap on the headers too. I did that on an old harley I just rebuilt also but I bet it isn't fun wrapping headers, probably be easier to pull them and wrap them.

Re: Manual transmission: Clutch cable kit

Get a hydraulic clutch, you can run the line pretty much anywhere and clear anything. One of these days I'm going to pony up for a hydraulic conversion.

Re: Manual transmission: Clutch cable kit

I had to run a cable clutch through 2 header primaries. Wrap your headers near where the cable would be, and make a bracket to hold it in a certain position. If you want, Summit or Jegs sells a heat cover that fits nicely around the cable as well.

I found an original style pedal on ebay, used a quadrant and any cable clutch from an 80s mustang, available from any parts house.
