Fiberglass Hoods Suck

My fiberglass hood seems to change shape with the weather. When its nice and cool it sits flat and fits proper. As it warms up, the hood gets more and more of a bow in the middle of it. Enough of a bow that you can almost stick your finger in between the edge of the hood and the fender. Any ideas or recommendations on how to strengthen it up? The hood is not warped and I use a prop rod instead of springs.

Re: Fiberglass Hoods Suck

Sounds like thermal expansion.

Might try to let the hood move a bit at the attachment points. So it will not buckle as it expands.

Re: Fiberglass Hoods Suck

Mustang hinges are loose enough horizontally that you shouldn't have to loosen anything, but that hood reacting like that seems to maybe want a new line of glass put underneath it for strength...

Re: Fiberglass Hoods Suck

The hood was bought from Johns Mustang in Houston. Not sure of the manufacturer but I don't think its any worse or better than any other fiberglass hood on the market. I think I would have the same issue with any glass hood. I'll try loosening it up a little and see if that makes any difference. Also thought about attaching a piece of aluminum angle or channel down each side but not sure if I could keep it in place or if it would keep it from bowing. If I ever repaint, I think I will go back to steel.

Is the hood reinforced?

If it has a frame, it shouldn't draw.
