Cool T-5 Conversion Clutch Set 68 Mustang

I am converting my 1968 Mustang Convertible from an automatic to a T-5. I am using the 28oz flywheel. Does anyone know which clutch set to use?? Or do I have to buy the separate pieces? Is the clutch disc different for the T-5?

Thanks,

Rob

You have to use the year correct clutch for your motor. The late model pressure plate wont bolt up to the flywheel. I just went through all this. I had a late model clutch and it was a no go. Both early and late model clutches are ten spline so the shaft will fit either. As far as what the part number is, there are quiet a few that are made for your year, from mild to wild. Auto zone can get you a normal clutch for about $110. If you want performance clutch, expect to pay about $300-400.

Here are some that will work.

You can also get a new flywheel with the correct 28 oz. balance that accepts both the early and late model style clutches. That is what I used on my early motor with the latemodel t-5 cnversion.

Got a source? There are a lot better clutch options with the late models than the early.

It was a while ago when I got mine, but Im pretty sure it was from ford racing. It was a billet steel piece that was SFI approved. You should be able to get a simular flywheel from Mcleod, ram, or any other clutch maker.

Mcleod makes em both tooth rings, both ballance options, with bolt patterns to accept both pres plates - just be sure to use the dowel pins if you go to the diaphragm clutch.
If you need a PN I can dig it out for you, I run the cable on my toploader with the diaphragm clutch.

Re: T-5 Conversion Clutch Set 68 Mustang

Hey Roarnracin,

Sent you a PM about darkhorse. Wanted to see if you can help me get a crossmember for my 64 Fairlane.

Email me @ SLoweryIN@comcast.net please.

I can't get him to follow through after my phone calls to him.

Wanted to see if you could pick one up for me or send pics and dimensions of the crossmember?

Thanks,
Steve

Our 289 and t5 are using a 28oz Zoom Performance Flywheel and late model clutch.
It comes with bolt on weights for 28 or 50 oz imbalance.
you must use a 5.0 starter.
It was a little pricey...
