Motor swap questions

I have a buddy with a 67 stang that has a 6cyl. in it and he got a 302 from a 89 lincoln towncar and wants me to swap the motors.I've got some questions

I know i need new motor mounts.
I dont know about the oil pan does it have to be a front sump or what?
We're switching it from F.I. to carbed so i know i'll need a new intake and a carb.
Will the trans from the lincoln work or no?

And anyother help would be great thanks.

Hmmmm, I'll take a shot...

Mav,
First off, you can swap out the engine and tranny on that car with the Lincoln hardware. You'll need to get some '68 V8 motor mounts. Does that tranny have a link to the computer? How about the speedo drive...is it mechanical?

But, you shouldn't just swap out the engine and tranny on that 6 cyl. car without changing the front suspension and the rear-end. Which means you'll need four new wheels (to replace the 4-lug wheels currently on the car). I just did a 65 Mustang 6 cyl-to-V8 swap. It took 6 weeks (including paint work in the engine compartment) to complete.

Give us some more information. What other mods does your friend have planned?

Robert

Re: Motor swap questions

In addition to the new intake and carb, you'll need a distributor that will work with your ignition of choice, a front sump oil pan/pickup and a set of the V-8 insulators & mounts. You'll also need a timing cover, brackets and pulleys if you want to use the '68 style front dress and/or a mechanical fuel pump.

The 89 AOD is a standalone unit, but you'll need a Lokar TV cable setup for it to operate properly. Be sure to grab the plug from the Lincoln for the neutral safety/backup lights harness.
