wiring a 12v 6a stereo amp to ign accessory

ive just bought one of these..

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-Motor-Bike...d=p3286.c0.m14

i`m not hugely worried about power and excellent sound quality and this seemed cheap and small.. the plan is to get an old dead `68 radio and retrofit this inside and wire up the appropriate pots.. i dont listen to the radio or cd`s so i`ll just use it as an mp3 input

plus, if i screw it up.. it didnt cost much..

the question is.. this amp takes 12v 6amps, i`m wondering what amperage is supplied to the accessory switch. (i have a free black and green cable which has power, i thought i could use that, with a fuse of course) or maybe theres a pre fused accessory lead i can use.. car isnt here so i cant check.

as an aside, will any pre `69 radio fit in a 68 dash and bezel? (if so does anyone have a dead one they dont want?)

ta,

Mark

Looking at the power jack in the picture, you should be okay. Just wire it into an available circuit and check your fuse box for an appropriate size fuse. If you're worried about it you can install a 5 pin relay and use the ignition switch to energize the relay and use battery power for the amp. I don't think this is necessary though in your case. Should work fine, even on the other side of the pond.
