200 Six Head and Carb Setup

I have a 68 200 block with a 75 Intake manifold. I have about 5 carbs and hope to discount a carb with these cores from a carb shop. They tell me they won't touch this setup as the 75 intake on top of the 68 block is all wrong. I assume they mean relative to intake opening, etc. Is there something drastically wrong with this set up. Thx

No there really isn't. Your combustion chambers on the 75 are a lot bigger than they were in 66 and the compression will be down a lot unless you mill the head and block the deck.

I have a 1970 head on my 61 Falcon with a 66 200 block, I milled a lot off the head and left th block alone and I'm doing fine.

I use a Carter YF carburetor, it's got very good low and mid range power and decent passing power, but the carb is a bit lacking above 70 MPH.

Re: 200 Six Head and Carb Setup

Why was pony carbs so adamant about having the head sorted out before they would sell me a carb for it ? Is it the head / porting / etc. I am not a mechanic by trade so what's my best option for getting this car set up? The carb on this set up looks to be an 1100 from an automatic with several of the ports plugged. Also I hear this is an EGR head which has something to do with the 70's emission/unleaded fuel setup.

Re: 200 Six Head and Carb Setup

Your BEST bet is to get a NON smog head, or an Early smog head without the gas tubes. They flow a little better without porting.

The Auto 1100 is a good carb for fuel mileage, but for power, find a Carter YF. For a 1V carb you can't beat it.

Pony carb's don't want your misunderstanding of your combination to come back to haunt them later, so they want you sure of everything before recommending or selling you a carb.

If it's a project car you're going to slowly improove on over the time you have it, shop e-bay and craiglsist for a Carter YF off a 60's - 70's Ford. You'll save money and have a good carb to boot.
