Arrow 71 NASA Ram Air Hood

I found a guy selling an original NASA Ram Air Hood off of a 71 Mach 1 he had, said he'd sell it to me for $500 and I would have to pick it up in Texas (I live in KS ). Is this expensive for just a hood? It doesn't have functioning Ram Air, or the Bevels for the two air intake ports.

Edit: It's been in his garage since 71. So no damage/rust/etc.

Re: 71 NASA Ram Air Hood

Dude are you kidding?

That hood shouldn't be worth much to YOU unless you're putting it on a genuine Ram Air Mustang trying to match #'s and such...

Have one bought and shipped in fiberglass for $375 bucks...

Unless you gotta have steel then go for it...

Re: 71 NASA Ram Air Hood

I'm not worried about matching numbers. I'm not worried about concours correct or OEM and all. As long as the body/frame is all original it doesn't matter to me. But I wasn't sure if $500 + travel expensise from KS > TX > KS would be worth it for this hood. And yes, I would be making the Ram Air functioning for my car. I don't like fiberglass otherwise I would have went the cheap route. I'd like a steel hood but I am iffy on the cost. That's all.

Personally I think $500 is overkill....

Re: 71 NASA Ram Air Hood

eBay Motors: Mustang Hood NASA Ram Air 71-73 (item 290259328440 end time Sep-15-08 15:21:48 PDT)

You can get brand new Ram Air hoods for under $300...doesn't include shipping, but even with that is should still be less than $500.

Even "good" ram air hoods stored in garages I find tend to have some rust hidden inside...Personally, unless restoring a "numbers matching" car, I would go with the repop...just need the scoop inserts, and the lip moulding...and then you can decide if you want to make it a functional ram air hood or not, all the pieces are pretty much being repopped nowadays.

Good luck!
Mike

Re: 71 NASA Ram Air Hood

I wouldn't mind a reproduction hood if it were steel, I just don't like fiberglass.

Re: 71 NASA Ram Air Hood

The one I listed in response here is steel...most Mustang parts suppliers are carrying them as well. All steel like the original, you just need the "extras"...scoops & inserts, hood lip moulding and ram air (or the block offs).

Usually I see them selling for around $275 to $350 depending on vendor...shipping varies too.
