replacing my 200-6 with a 351 Windsor, 69 Mustang Coupe

I’m new to this forum, and look forward to visiting with fellow Ford fans.

Looking for information on replacing my 200-6 with a 351 Windsor.

I have a 1969 Mustang Coupe with a 200-6 motor. (not the original 200-6 motor) The body and interior of my Mustang are in very, very good condition.. I have a friend who builds Jeeps and center consoles (very cool) (you can check him out at Max-Bilt Jeeps He has a 351 Windsor for $75, no intake manifold or carburetor, and it needs to be rebuilt. We plan to rebuild it together, so this will be a great learning experience for me and the labor will be free (less the Bush Light)

I want to lay a nice patch of rubber in the 4th of July parade.

-Will the 351 Windsor fit in my 69 Mustang Coupe?
-Should I look for a different motor?
-Is this a bad idea?

After looking into this I found I need to replace the following:
-Transmission
-Rear end
-Radiator
-Front disc breaks
-(not sure what I need for front suspension)

I’m open to any suggestions you may have.

I’m also on a very low budget. ($2,500)

The 351 Windsor will be a great motor to put in your car and is an easy swap using factory parts..You should already have an 8 inch rear end so you don't have to upgrade unless you are going to build the 351 to make some very serious power(400+)..A front brake upgrade would be a nice addition if you don't have discs but is optional..You may need some beefier V-8 front springs as well but I would put in the engine first and see how it sits....Keep your eye out for a 69-70 cougar as that was the standard engine for them and would make a great parts car for your swap..

What kind of transmission sould I look for?

Also is the Windsor more powerful then the standard 2V Cleveland.

Trans depends on your mechanicial knowledge. C-4 was easy and done by Ford so it fits easy. AOD is more work and TV cable is touchy. C-4 and keep it simple for now. 8" rearend is good enough and will handle what you have in mind. Factory frame to motor mounts and 351W motor mounts. C-4 trans crossmember and trans mount and it's in there. Use 302/351W front coils when you rebuild the front end. Go to a 1" swaybar also.

I am building a 408 right now. Learning from experience it will cost more than you expect. You should get a second or third job like me.

Going to be very hard to get there from here with that budget. The motor best be in good shape. You'll be using a basic rebuild kit with cast pistons. Look to PAW for lower cost parts. Do not skimp on head work, even if you just have them re-done. You have no budget for porting or other wild stuff, but not putting in good guides and seals will cost you later. Ring and cylinder wall finish are also critical to long life. Watch your compression and keep it under 9:1 but don't let it fall too far. Run something like a 214/224 cam in it but again use a brand name cam kit from Crane, Comp, etc - do not skimp or you'll have an engine full of metal in about 100 miles. Read up on current break-in procedures.

If you DIY, you can bring the front brakes in under about $500 for a Granada swap, figure $750-$1000 if you buy it in kit form. A basic C4 rebuild of a good trans should run about $200 including a good core if you DIY, plus $200~250 for a decent converter. $700 or so for just the trans if you have to buy it outright. If the car has an 8" leave it, if not then hunt one. If it requires a gear set, bearings, etc figure $400 DIY or $600+ in a shop.

IMHO, you have barely 1/2 the budget necessary. Shop carefully but don't be "penny wise and pound foolish" because do-overs cost money too.

Well I have a set of .030" over pistons, hypers, truck rods, guide plates/studs for the heads, pushrods and Edlebrock Pref manifold that needs a good home. Probably flexplate and other parts to rebuild one.

What parts do you want? Truck rods are polished with ARP bolts to. I even have a set of pistons for a Clevor.
