Smile Another one saved from neglect

This is a great site for resources and advice.

This week I bought a 1967 Convertible with a 2V 289. It was sitting in a guys driveway for 5 years waiting for a decision to be made on its fate. It was advertised locally and after a fairly quick assessment, I purchased it. After getting it home, I stripped out the interior, carpets, door panels..revealing about $6 in spare change, a bees nest under the driver's seat and the usual rusty floors. Hopefully I can get it to dry out over the next few days.

Today is oil change day. The gas in the tank smells fine, engine turns over without problem. I didn't try to start it because I want to change fluids, filters and so on incase they've broken down over time.

Looks like the car will need floors and some superficial body panels, but it came with the original owners manual, bill of sale and history so I think I have a good project to start with.

This site rules and I look forward to sharing information along the way.

Re: Another one saved from neglect

Thanks for the comments!

One thing I've never been able to figure out with both Mustangs I've had is how to clean out debris that has fallen in to the cowel vent below the windshield.

Anyone know of a fairly humane way to get in there?

Is there an efficient way to plug those holes if you do take the fenders off?

I mean plug the area necessary to prevent water from getting into the car through the vents. I would trade blocked vents for no water on the floormats.

well.. if you have water getting onto your mats it means you have a rusted cowl.. so short of fixing it (which usually means removing the entire upper cowl panel and welding, which can be expensive/time consuming, abeit the best and proper thing to do) you could just buy a cowl cover like this..

Classic Mustang 1967-68 Cowl Cover

but i`d get the one from NPD made by cowl cover industries. its a good quality piece... which will keep the water out..
