Lightbulb Started my 69 mustang project

Hey everyone!

I am finally starting on my 1969 mustang fastback. I have given it a lot of thought and i think i may make a boss clone, with a 302 engine, with cleveland heads and all the other parts that make it a boss engine but i would stroke it out to a 331.The paint i am prob gonna go with is black with a pearl colored c stripe and hood.

I have also thought about going a different way and stroking out a 351 cleveland, but i havent heard much info and positive stories on that project so i am gonna stay clear of it for now.

Do yall think my boss clone idea is good or should i stick with just a fastback and a bigger badder engine.
Also what is ur view on the stroked out boss engine
All responses, either positive or negative will be very helpful.
I will post pictures soon once i get a chance

Everyone here will have some different ideas. You need to make it to make you happy. Problem will Boss 302 clone is big cleveland heads flow a lot work better at high rpms. Is this going to be a track car or a driver? If it is your first build and funds are limited a late model 5.0 or even 351 would be better street engine. I am a big block guy myself. If you think the Boss 2 is what you want than do it.

Re: Started my 69 mustang project

I am wanting to make it a street car that can hold up on the track. I also want a car that is gonna turn heads when i roll up at a show, my dad is a small block man and his opinions are hard to change, the doesn't want the engine to weigh down the car and make the handling more difficult on me So i gave up on tryin to get his 429 super cobra jet engine in my car haha

Re: Started my 69 mustang project

Like Gbic said, Boss 302's are designed for wide open throttle performance. If you plan to drive it at 7,000 RPM all day, they are fine. They are horrible on the street, however. I had one, I know. A nicely built 351 in in either Windsor or Cleveland form would provide you with a much more fun ride on the street. The longer stroke will actually make it a faster care light to light. Keep the heads relatively small for good throttle response.

Re: Started my 69 mustang project

thanks for the info and personal experience. The main reason i thought about making a 302 clone is, one my dad has a real boss, and has 2 extra engines, and two: I want a car that catches attention at car shows.

I would put a stroked 351 Cleveland in it, that's what I did with my 69 Mach, took out the original 351 Windsor.

I am sure with todays technology you could make a boss motor very streetable...However a better choice might be the stroked cleveland..You can make it up around 400 cubes for lots of torque and power and you can dress it up like a boss since they share the same valve covers..
