My 1969 Mustang Mach 1 Project

Hi guys,
my name's Christian, I'm the proud owner of a Mach 1 project - it will take a while to get it on the street again, but with a little help of my friends I'm sure we'll make it until the next summer.
I will post updates to my site Ford Mustang Mach1 - my-mach1.com. Sorry, it's written in German because I'm from Germany, but I will make some updates here in English too if anyone is interested.
The car is originally an AZ Car, so the body is quite ok - not too much welding is needed as far as I can say by now. It is a 4-speed manual car and it was painted Acapulco Blue. The interior trim was white, but I want a new black one. The only options it had were the 4-speed trans, F70x14 wide oval wsw tires, power steering, tinted glass and an AM radio.
Cheers,
Chris

Hey where in Germany are you? I'm living in Munich for the time and it would be nice to see some "real" American cars again.

Hi! I'm from Lower Saxony, so I'm about 600 km north from you. But there's lots of American cars in southern Germany! There are some Mustang Clubs in Munich too...

The big situation being is how much work can you do yourself, and how much needs to be shopped out to someone else? You have a place to store it in between the work being done for normally it takes a good year or two to get everything accomplished.

Re: My 1969 Mustang Mach 1 Project

Well, I have a friend who will do the welding. Media blasting and paint will be done in a shop (the paint shop owner is a friend and mustanger too), everything else will be done by me and friends.

There is an update on my site Ford Mustang Mach1 - my-mach1.com
I continued stripping the car: We removed the rear window (full of scratches), the frame is rock solid, nothings rusted through.

Then I removed everything still on the inside of the car. Those little things like coat hooks and the mounts for the rear seat.
After that I began the disassembly of the front end.
Does anyone know a supplier of a disc brake kit which comes near the original disc brakes? I found some like dfbrakes.com, discbrakeswap.com, there's Wilwood and SSBC and MP Brakes... What can you recommend? I'd like to keep most stuff as original as possible because of the German TÜV (they check cars every two years and historic cars must be quite original to pass their check).

There's a lot of body filler on the roof - I will remove the paint and I hope I won't find too many dents...

Filler on the roof usually indicates small waves... It's bound to happen when a car get's driven, grocery bag's get put there, tree limbs fall, set the baby up there or whatever...

Glad you're keeping us up on the progress!

Hey Chris,
Nice find! It amazes me how many of these American muscle cars are all over the world. I just ordered a movie called "[SIZE=2]A2 Racer Autobahnracer" Should be a good one! Good luck with your project and European builders rock! You guys got some of the sickest ratrods and custom choppers!

Congratulations, it sounds as though you have a good support group to assist you with that project.
I'm not trying to discourage you but one friend said on the subject of Mustang projects that "it will take twice as long and cost twice as much asyou initially thought".
Oh yeah, the empty bottle of Hienekin on the roof indicates you already have one of the most important restoration aids at hand.
Good Luck.
Check out MustangSteve.com for disk brake kits, most of his stuff uses O/E Ford components and he tests his product on real vehicles before he sells them. Good prices as well.

@G00S3N3CKB0BB3: Thanks a lot! But don't be disappointed about that movie, it's a crappy german b-movie. But it might be quite fun with some beer and friends ;-)

@kechke: Thank you too, I know what I'm doing I helped another friend building an Eleanor Clone and we're doing a partial restauration on a 63.5 Galaxie Fastback right now too. So I'm quite aware that it will cost more than estimated and it's ok if it takes longer.
And thank you for the info about MustangSteve. I will contact him, it looks like a good setup.
Oh, btw: It's Beck's Beer, not Heineken

Re: My 1969 Mustang Mach 1 Project

I've talked to MustangSteve but he can only provide the Cobra setup which won't fit 15" wheels. That's the biggest size that will pass the historic car check :-( I will make a comparison between the suppliers I've found until now and write that down for everybody who's interested...

Cheers!
