cylinder head trade offs RHS proaction vs Edel E-street

sooo.. new heads. for a street motor, looking for good fuel economy (which im getting with my D0OEs 20mpg ish), and bottom - mid range grunt (

on my 289, 0.30 over i have a dilemma.. ideally id get afr 165s with 58cc but i cant afford.

i have the choice between E-street

170 intake port, 1.90 intake valve 1.60 exh, 60cc chamber (9.16:1)

or rhs pro action

180 intake port, 2.02 intake valve, 1.60 exh, 58cc chamber (9.4:1)

any pointers on what carachteristics to expect? would the RHS heads be a bit too big for my 289? (my pistons could take the 2.02 valves)

**edit** just seen the RHS 160cc intake with 1.94 valves.. this would be spot on , right?

cheers,

Mark

Re: cylinder head trade offs RHS proaction vs Edel E-street

I was just going to post a link to the new 160 cc RHS heads.

Racing Head Service - Cylinder Heads - SummitRacing.com

It seems to me that the RHS 160cc heads would be really nice for a mild 289. Probably much better than the Edelbrock heads. Spot on!

JMO,

paulie

For the price of the RHS heads, you could probably spend 100 dollars more and get the AFR's. On the other hand you could get the small valve Edelbrock or Trick flow heads, have them milled a little for good compression and you will still be a few hundred under what you paid for the RHS or AFR heads.

If I were you, and not looking for the most powerfull engine, but a nice torque reliable engine I would go with the Edelbrocks. I have heard they have the best quality of the aftermarked aluminum heads:

Get them sent to you and have them milled down a bit to get your compression to about 10.0:1

if i was buying assembled heads then yeah i guess (and if i was in the states) but i`m already over budget really.. from what i understand i can use oem parts with the RHS heads of which i have everything bar the valves so. and i can upgrade the rockers later on.

it works out slightly cheaper for me to build up the RHS heads then to buy the parts i`ll need to set up the built edelbrock ones..

i`m not sure what the deal is with AFR`s if you can buy those bare and use oem parts?

Re: cylinder head trade offs RHS proaction vs Edel E-street

RHS heads are tyically far and away superior to Edelbrocks, in terms of flow and power. Not even close IMO. Overall quality I don't know.

AFR's are probably a step up from the RHS's. but more expensive.

RHS's are a great value. I wouldn't necessarily rule out the RHS180's for a mild motor either. But for mileage and low end power in a 289 the RHS 160's seem ideal to me.
