78 Mustang II timing info needed

I have a 289 with Autolite 2bbl carb in it. The base timing has no advance once I plug in the vacuum. It appears to have timed vacuum. Is this the correct set up? My 68 XL had vacuum at the dist at idle. It would advance when I plugged it in.

Thanks

You are probably hooked to a timed port on the carb, it will have vacuum above an idle. Thats where I hook up to.
