New to the world

Hello all,

I had some questions concerning my 76 mustang 2 cobra. This is my first car, I am brining it out of storage.

What I am trying to do is get it back on the road. This is a factory 4 speed 302 car.

I am trying to get my hands on the factory sealed style cobra 2 radiator would anyone have one of these?

The car has not ran since 1995, when it did it had a 1968 302 and the factory 4 speed in it.

I want to change out the motor in the car, what I have is a doaner truck. A 1992 ford flare side 4x4 5.8 liter. The truck was rolled, everything up to the flexplate has been removed.

I just bought a 5 speed transmission and had it adapted over to the factory rad tranmission specs for the input shaft. So that it will fit the bell housing.

My plan is to drop the motor and trany combo into the cobra 2. I am trying to find out what compotets I will need from the truck (wiring harness/componet wise).

Will I need to replace the factory harness from the car?

What kinds of compatibility issues will I face?

Where can I get a good wiering harnesss on the 1992 flarside pickup?

Is there anyone that can help?

There's many people here that can and will help.
Welcome to FM!

First though, the Windsor is Wider than the 302... So it will be a little tight... Maybe too tight...

What do you say boy's and girls? Can ya help the new guy :?)

Re: New to the world

If the 5.8 is what us old school guys call a 351, it will fit. It will be tight but it will fit. I think there are people out there that make headers for the swap. If you use a carb on the motor you want need a new wiring harness. If you go injected try painless wiring.

Re: New to the world

hey there,

Yes as far as I know it will fit its a total of 4 inches wider as I am to understand it will work its just that I woun;'t beable to use headers. I am not sure if the factory rear end will hold up to it.

When I look up the painless wiring systems I don't see a mustang 2 one. Would the general one work?

Re: New to the world

I would browse the tech here before I got too far along:
Mustang II Network - Tech Center - Main Page

If you carb the 351, then the MII stuff should mostly work, depending. If you plan to EFI the thing then you'll need a EFI spec harness, probably from FRPP. And an intake that will fit a car.

I personally would sell the 351 and buy a 331 or 347 stroker kit for the 302. Less hassle all around, just as much power. If the car has an 8", it'll hold up OK until you really hop up the motor and put slicks on it. If it's not an 8", then you'll want to upgrade.
