'95 Mustang returning to idle slowly, surging when clutch disengaged.

My dad drives a '95 Mustang GT, bone stock, except for a K&N filter and Flowmaster 40 series. The car, when stopped, if you hit the throttle will take a while to come back down to normal idle, usually hanging around 1500 RPM. If rolling, when you disengage the clutch to shift, the car actually increases RPM. I've sprayed the throttle body down with carb cleaner and wiped it down the best I could since it's hard to reach in there. I've also replaced the IAC valve, sprayed the MAF down with carb cleaner, and checked the TPS voltage which was at .982. I also sprayed around the engine with starter fluid looking for vacuum leaks, but I couldn't find any. Anybody have any suggestions?

It sounds like your mass airflow sensor is gone. kaput. sayonara. Do you have access to a scanner, the kind that tells you what inputs the computer is seeing?

Try this link:http: //www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2005/10/... for some info on maf systems. About halfway down, it talks about maf systems and what it does.

We actually rolled the idle air screw in a few turns, it dropped the idle, and the car returns pretty good now. I'm sure the MAF is pretty well done, but at least it's tolerable right now.
