AOD to T5 swap

the ford muscle article on the swap stated that I would only need the one small wiring harness and showed a picture of it next to the cross member/ exhaust mount and I am wondering where I would find this harness? Was it already on my car with the AOD or does it usually come with the T5. I purchased a new ford racing T5 heavy duty so I don't think it will come with any wiring. I was told by a gentleman who deals with these swaps that I need the WHOLE T5 wiring harness which looks more like a tangled ball of yarn than anything else. Please help!!!

AOD to T5 swap

I just did mine. You only need the short harness for the back up lights. I bought the whole nine yards on Ebay. Keep checking Ebay, www.latemodelrestoration.com. AOD harness is useless on the T5. Some T5's also come with a neutral light switch, top driver's side, don't bother to use it, just let it hang if the trans has it. Also don't change out the cpu or ecm.

AOD to T5 swap

Thanks a ton. I just bought the small harness on ebay I think it will work great. Are you happy with the conversion or did it feel sloppy and rigged?

AOD to T5 swap

I can't speak for others but I'm very happy with my T5 swap and a total blast to drive compared to the AOD. I don't know what you mean by feel sloppy and rigged... the transmission? the whole drivetrain?

Anyways, I got most of my hard-to-find parts (clutch pedal assembly, back-up wire harenss, etc.) from eBay and I didn't need to chaged over to the T5 wiring harness and I kept the AOD computer. In fact, I was told that AOD computer is actually better with a T5, I guess more aggressive timing. I also recommend upgrading to a aluminum clutch cable quadrant and driveshaft.
