no oil pressure

Hello,
I recent have come into a problem with my oil pressure on my 1990 fox mustang. It has a 331 built motor with a high volume oil pump(debured etc...) and an arp hardened shaft. Anywho it recently started reading below zero on the stock gauge inside the car at idle. If any gas is applied it goes back up to the normal zone. we pulled the dist to look at the shaft and dist itself. Both seemed to be fine. I spun the pump with a drill and the pressure remained constant and I could see oil flowing. I also recently got a new oil pressure sending unit as well. Any ideas?
Thanks

I would first hook up a mech gauge and verify the readings you're getting on the factory gauge.

Is it making any noises?

Id do as mentioned. Get a mech. gauge and verify that the pressure is in fact zero. Hopefully, it's a wire or factory gauge problem...which is fairly common.

If it is in fact zero, and you can feel resistance on the pump when spinning it by hand...could be split block like mentioned, but I'd be more inclined to think that one of the front galley plugs came out. Same thing happened to me...numerous times. 302's have press-in plugs and with a HV pump sometimes they can come out. I now tap them all. No drilling required, just run a 1/4 NPT tap in there put a few threads in it, and screw a plug in.

We got a mechanical gauge and verified that there is zero to no oil pressure while running. Where should I go from here?

Is this a fresh build? If not, how many miles on it?

Is that zero pressure at idle or all rpm?

0 at idle and 20 psi at 3000-4000 rpm
